Aging in Place
In early 2016, Coastal Habitat launched Aging in Place, a program created to strategically address the growing home livability issues faced by many Southern Monmouth County seniors and veterans. Aging in Place extends the organization's impact by giving a "hand up" to seniors and veterans (of all ages) in jeopardy of being forced to move because they cannot maintain or maneuver their family homes.
Can you imagine having to leave your home filled with a lifetime of memories because you cannot afford grab bars for your bathroom, a ramp for your three front steps or to replace a leaky roof? In a recent report, the AARP found seniors forced to change residences due to livability issues was "reaching epidemic levels" here and around the country. Monmouth County is home to more than 100,000 seniors (16 percent of the population) and 40,000 veterans.
With seed support from the Allstate Foundation, Coastal Habitat's Aging in Place program will work to keep Southern Monmouth County seniors and veterans right where they want to be... at home. The program will focus on property repairs crucial to independent, comfortable and dignified living, including:
- accessibility improvements
- mobility modifications
- critical interior and exterior home repairs
- weatherization enhancements
- energy efficiency updates
In addition to the projects Coastal Habitat will engage in locally, the organization will lobby on behalf of seniors and veterans on the state and federal level for more funding, awareness and assistance.
Since 1994, Coastal Habitat has been dedicated to serving the needs of Southern Monmouth County communities. Call 732.974.2422 extension 4 or email firstname.lastname@example.org to request assistance or refer a friend.
